Another restoration of an Early American theatrical advertisement, this for H.M.S. Pinafore, and again for the Gilbert and Sullivan archive.
Similar to my last upload, this is from the D'Oyly Carte's trip to America, where they failed to oust the pirated Pinafores, but succeeded with Pirates of Penzance. ( See [link] for evidence this is a D'Oyly Carte production; I believe there are more direct statements hidden somewhere on their site.)
Restoration was surprisingly time consuming: While the breaks between the sections were fairly easy to fix, there was a ton of dirt and grime on it, which took a lot of work to digitally remove. Estimated time: 6-8 hours?
Original image is available here. It was created by J. E. Jackson in 1879.
