Description
Another restoration of one of my favourite artists, Thure de Thulstrup, this time of his Battle of Gettysburg. As usual, it's printed by L. Prang & Co. in 1887 (thus making the original well out of copyright).

This was a long, but not over-difficult restoration. Like many Thulstrup prints, it was done on vellum - real vellum - which causes a characteristic dappling effect when the light of the LoC's scan reflects off the dimples from the hair pores on the right and left edges. This is a highly distracting effect that required a fair bit of cleanup.

"They were farmers, and schoolteachers, gentlemen and labors. They became from Maine and Texas. From New York from Virginia. A conflict that turn neighbor against neighbor, freinds against foes. Faith made them soldiers, were made them brothers, and courage made them heroes".
